성균관대학교 사학과를 졸업하고 동 대학원에서 석사학위를 받았다. 1960~1980년대 경제개발기 한국 수도권 도시들의 개발 과정과 도시사회의 변화를 연구한다. 수도권 남부 도시공간의 정비와 수도권의 팽창에 관한 박사학위논문을 준비하고 있다. 주요 논문으로 「1960년대 한국 도시계획의 균열과 경합 – 수원 도시계획 재정비안의 결정 과정을 중심으로」, 「1960년대 후반 국토계획의 전환과 ‘서울-부산 간 메갈로폴리스’ 구상의 좌절」 등이 있다. 성균관대학교 구술사연구사업팀에서 3년 간 근무하였으며, 2024년에는 연구책임자로 서울역사편찬원 구술채록사업(마포구와 나의 인생)을 수행하였다. 2025년 9월부터는 성균관대학교 동아시아학술원의 한국학연계전공 트랙에서 한국 근현대 정치사를 가르치고 있다. 

Kyungyul Park is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Sungkyunkwan University. He studies urban developments and transformation of cities in metropolitan Seoul from the 1960s to the 1980s. Kyungyul’s doctoral thesis explores the interaction between government policies and market agents in shaping South Korea’s metropolitan expansion. Focusing on two dimensions of metropolitan Seoul – demarcated area and functional network –, his thesis examines the creation of metropolitan Seoul as both an institutional construct and a physical reality within Korea’s spatial stratification. Since 2022 he served on the Oral History Project Team at Sungkyunkwan University for three years. In 2024 he led an interview recording project organized by the Seoul Historiography Institute. He received two research grants from the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2023 and 2024. Since September 2025 he has been teaching modern Korean history to exchange students at the Academy of East Asian Studies, Sungkyunkwan University.
